TRUST YOURSELF!

First of all, as your kid's parents, you know better than anyone else what your kids are like. Some kids are messy, some are tidy. Some kids like quiet activities, like reading and day-dreaming. Some kids are more physical. Some kids are little angels, and some kids have a way of finding all the cracks in the sidewalk....

The kind of furniture you choose for your kid has a lot to do with those things, and no one knows your kid better than you do!

Secondly, no one knows better than you what kind of values you want to nurture in your child, and this will be involved in your furniture-buying decision. For example: Do you value success in school? Then try to make room for a student desk in your plans. For another example: Do you value learning to take good care of your things? If you do, then you might want to buy the kinds of things that can be passed down from father to son, from mother to daughter, like family heirlooms-- but not everyone thinks that way!

Some people think that it's better to buy more disposable items, so you can afford to change the decor as your kid's personality emerges-- and so you won't be heart-broken if Jonny decides to carve his initials in his bunkbed-- 'cuz those things do happen, you know!

And who is right? You are right. Because only you know the values you lead your own life by, and the values you want to nurture in your own kids.

Thirdly, no one knows better than you what your house is like and, in particular, what your child's bedroom is like. And that's very important. Usually, kids rooms are very small, and so you have to use the space efficiently. But that means knowing its actual dimensions, where the doors and windows and closets are, which doors swing in, etc.-- you have to plan. Which is why our website includes a handy space planner.

Fourthly, it isn't all that hard to spot quality in children's furniture. You do not need an electron microscope or a PhD. A little common sense plus a Half Hour Quality Seminar will make you a certified Children's Furniture Expert!

FIND A STORE YOU CAN TRUST

And you already know how to do that, I'm sure!

First, you ask yourself such questions as, "Does this business seem to be successful? How many years have they been in business? Do they have more than one store?" If a company seems to be successful, over many years, you figure that they're probably doing a pretty good job of making their customers happy.

Then, when you go to the store, does it have a good "feel" for you? Is it clean and tidy and "pleasing to the eye"? Or does it look like the merchandise is just thrown around thoughtlessly on the floor? Everyone likes a store that has a "good feel", and there is a very good reason for that: if a company cant manage its own stores, why believe that it can manage your order? And if a company doesn't seem to care about its own stores, why believe that it will care about your order? Of course you will also ask about guarantees.

And maybe most important of all, you will have to judge the PEOPLE that you find in the store.....

Which brings us back to RULE NUMBER ONE: TRUST YOURSELF!

You can tell when someone really knows what he's talking about-- and wants to tell you the truth-- or is just "making noise" for the sake of making a sale. And you can also tell if he really likes his job, and is doing his best to do it well. And that matters to you because you know that good companies are made up of good people-- and because you know that when you order an item of furniture, you're not just ordering an item of furniture, you are placing your trust in a company made up of people.

THE KIDS ROOM prides itself on the quality of the people who will serve you when you go into a KIDS ROOM store. We are confident that the people you meet there will not only "know their stuff"-- and we're confident that they will-- we are confident that they'll show you all the courtesy and caring you expect from good neighbors and good people.

And here is what the good people at the Kids Room (plus your own common sense) tell you what the question of quality boils down to: (1) SAFETY and (2) DURABILITY.

Good luck!
